Inscribed on verso: St. Hilarion Castle, Cyprus. Sir Horloyd Pearce.

Description:

Edwards Horloyd Pearce, baron Pearce was a British judge and amateur artist. He was a member of the London school. While visiting Cyprus he must have stayed in Kyrenia since all of his Cyprus paintings are of the district. The Royal apartments in St Hilarion castle were most popular with artists who represented them in detail. The painting affords lovely vistas of the mountains beyond and gives a robust depiction of the interior of the castle in strong yellows, reflecting the colour of the stonework.
