Description:

The Scottish artist Denis Frederic Neil Peploe came to Cyprus in 1951 after having been through a heavy attack of TB. Son of an artist, he developed his own style through structural design and rich surfaces. Often, Peploe combines landscape views with still life. Strong blues emanate from the painting. A vase with lilies decorates the foreground of a landscape portraying Kyrenia harbour, with special emphasis on the lighthouse. A white clay water pot signifies the period and the parochial environment of this backwater. The colours used make the scene look busy and inviting as if the viewer is about to discover more information.
