In 2016, the Centre of Visual Arts and Research became one of the few accredited museums in Cyprus by the Ministry of Education and Culture.

Cultural Heritage: Europa Nostra Award 2017

In 2017 CVAR won the EU Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards, in the Education, Training and Awareness-Raising category. The European Union Prizes for Cultural Heritage/ Europa Nostra Awards are Europe's top honours in the field of cultural heritage. Independent juries of experts examined a total of 202 applications submitted by organizations and individuals from 39 countries across Europe, and selected the 29 laureates. It is the first time that a Cypriot entry won in this particular category.

European Cultural Heritage Grand Prix

In 2017 Cyprus won the European Cultural Heritage Grand Prix for the first time. Maestro Plácido Domingo, President of Europa Nostra, the leading heritage organisation in Europe, honoured the Centre of Visual Arts and Research with the Grand Prix for Education, Training and Awareness-Raising at St. Michael’s Church in Turku, Finland.

Best in Heritage

In 2019 the Municipality of Nicosia honoured the Centre of Visual Arts and Research with an award and diploma for its contribution to the historical and cultural development of the city. the Centre of Visual Arts and Research was presented at the Best in Heritage Conference in Dubrovnik. The Best in Heritage is the world's only annual survey of award-winning museums and heritage and conservation projects from around the world. The conference was organised by the European Heritage Association, a NGO focusing on cultural heritage, in partnership with Europa Nostra and the Endowment Fund of the International Council of Museums. The event is supported by the City of Dubrovnik. As a result, The Centre of Visual Arts and Research became a member of the Excellence Club.
