Ploughing

Creator:

Ioannou, N.

Date:

1960

Places:

Cyprus

Description:

The amateur local painter N. Ioannou attempts to portray a scene of ploughing. The peasant works in his field dressed with the typical village costume consisting of the black vraka or baggy trousers and the short black gilet. The animals are unsuccessfully coloured in red and black while the mountains are supposed to be covered by trees. There is a certain charm in this naïve piece of work which may be attributed mostly to the colour combination.
