Description:

Mohamet Nagi was born in Alexandria, Egypt. He studied law and entered the Egyptian diplomatic service in 1924. In 1947 he accepted the position of director of the Egyptian Academy of Arts in Rome. In 1939 he married the Cypriot Lilika Tavernaris and from there on visited Cyprus every summer where he produced over fifty paintings. He considered himself a historical painter and is regarded as one of the national painters of Egypt. This drawing comes from one of the artist’s sketchbooks and portrays the monastery of Kykkos nestled in the Troodos mountains.
