Major General Sir Matthew William Edward Gosset entered the army in 1856, fought in Egypt, Burma, India the Zulu and Boer war and travelled extensively in the Middle East 1870-1892. This is a distant view of the town of Larnaca with the dome of St. Lazarus church and the minaret of Zuhuri cami protruding into the sky. The snow capped mountains seem to be enveloping the small town in whose outskirts three Greek shepherds graze their flock.
