Description:

Major General Sir Matthew William Edward Gosset entered the army in 1856, fought in Egypt, Burma, India the Zulu and Boer war and travelled extensively in the Middle East 1870-1892. His watercolours come from an album which he compiled of scenes from India, the Middle East and Scotland between 1873 and1891. This is a view of the castle of Kyrenia, one of the most popular sites with artists. Nine people are taking a stroll around the castle while a fisherman sits in his boat peacefully getting on with his chore.
