Description:
The artist belonged to the St Ives School and received much influence from Ben Nicholson and Barbara Hepworth. The watercolour depicts an expanse of terraced Cypriot landscape in a hot summer day. The green is receding and gives way to patches of dry land. The artist’s hand is free and gestural without losing contact with the landscape. The area portrayed is of the Paphos hills where the artist spent much of his time.
