Cyprus

Inscribed in lower left recto: Cyprus 1878

Description:

Tristram Ellis’ inspiration was tricked by a beautiful ravine in the mountains of Cyprus. The watercolor can almost be seen as a study of the flora of the area. Poplar trees, olive trees, pines and oaks grow next to each other surrounded by rocky mountains. The water color is a rhapsody of greens. The scene is probably in Paphos, above Kato Pyrgos village.
