The artist portrays an elderly Ottoman crutching on the ground enjoying a smoke. The sitter is dressed in white in typical Ottoman attire comprised of a white pantaloon vraka, a white collarless shirt, a white gilet and a white cap on his head. Typical are his slippers with the upturned front edge. This posture could be often seen in the Cyprus villages.
