Bellapais

Creator:

Codrington, John, 1898-1991

Date:

1923

Description:

Codrington spent much time in Cyprus and travelled all over the island. His brushes and palette were employed to glorify the light and the colours of the landscape and to record most of the important monuments. This small watercolour of Bellapais Abbey concentrates on the gothic window of the abbey and pays special attention to the decorated trefoil arch which frames a mountain and a cypress tree in the background.
