On Saturday, 18 May, CVAR joined museums around the globe to celebrate International Museum Day. This year was especially significant for us as we marked 20 years of fruitful cooperation between Norway and Cyprus through the EEA and Norway Grants.
The day kicked off with our educational programme, 'Inside the Museum,' where children and their families enjoyed a free interactive tour of our collections. It was heartwarming to see the young ones engaged and exploring the treasures of our museum.
In the afternoon, the Norwegian Embassy in Athens organised the event βWalking Together for a Green, Competitive, and Inclusive Europeβ to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Norway-Cyprus partnership. The event began at CVAR with welcome speeches by the Ambassador of the Norwegian Embassy, Ms Lajla Brandt Jakhelln; the Mayor of Nicosia, Mr Constantinos Yiorkadjis; and the Executive Director of CVAR, Dr Rita Severis. We had the honour to work closely with Mr Christian Grotnes Halvorsen, Deputy Head of Mission, and Ms Maria Fola, EEA Grants Adviser, of the Norwegian Embassy, to whom we are grateful for their constant communication and support. The welcome talks were followed by the screening of a video produced by EEA Norway Grants, showcasing the inspiring story of our museum.
From there, we took to the vibrant streets of downtown Nicosia, visiting key projects supported by the Grants, including a stop at the Nicosia Municipal Hall for a special exhibition, curated by the CVAR. The event concluded at Home 4 Cooperation with a concert by the bicommunal band Island Seeds.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and made this day unforgettable! Here's to many more years of cultural exchange and cooperation!
