U.S. Consul general Taylor Belcher sent a telegram to the Secretary of State regarding the situation in Famagusta

Cyprus Mail reports entire male population between ages 15 and 30 rounded up in Famagusta last night following EOKA shooting two British women. Mail further reported British troops in no mood for kid gloves methods in tracking down gunmen and two Greek Cypriots dead and ninety injured in resulting round-up. Times of Cyprus reports over 300 treated for injuries. School children caused trouble in Limassol and Morphou. Famagusta under house curfew and youths other large towns restricted to houses.
