The Victorian officer Lt Benjamin Alsop Donisthorpe Donne was Commissioner of Limassol in 1880-82 during which time he kept a diary of his experiences. He was the person who designed and enforced the uniform of the Cyprus Regiment:
The 3rd November, being Bairam holiday for the men, I issued the new police clothing to the whole force in the afternoon, the old red jacket being discarded for a blue uniform with a red braid.
