The American missionary Lorenzo Warriner Pease met a man from Aradippou village:

Saw a man from Aradippou the other day and asked him if they have a school there. He says yes, an old man teaches who is the candle- lighter in the church. He has about 15 scholars and receives 100 p for each when he has finished his education, i.e. when he is able to read. Sometimes a scholar will require several years to advance so far. As he lives also in the church of St. Luke, he is able to manage for the necessaries of life. He comes to Scala every Saturday to beg for the church. Our nurse says that the Armenians on the last Saturday of fast break an egg and eat it as a forerunner of the feast of Sunday. I asked if she did so, ‘oh’, she said ‘I am a Christian not an Armenian, I would not do it.
