The American missionary Lorenzo Warriner Pease examined the ruins of Paphos:
Yesterday we spent the day chiefly in examining the ruins of Paphos, guided by Mr. Smith of Ieros kipos. As I have previously described my observations it is unnecessary to add anything but new matter. The sketch of the church is made from a careful admeasurement and is singularly like the Greek churches of the present day. It is now to a considerable extent adorned with fresco paintings, especially in the niche of the alter.
