Queen Eleanor of Aragon realised that the Genoese did not come to help her but to occupy Cyprus. Leto Severis continues the story:
When she arrived in Nicosia on the 4th December 1373, she found it ungoverned and in total anarchy. Even she, the Queen, was unable to control the crowd. The Genoese plundered Famagusta and Nicosia, and thirty Genoese galleys left Ayia Napa full of booty. Very few however arrived at their destination, as most were wrecked in a storm on their way back to Genoa. When Eleanor saw with her own eyes the anarchy in Nicosia, she persuaded the Genoese to continue to Kyrenia. Once again she was put at the head of the Genoese army. The Genoese had suffered many losses during these months, and they wanted to come to an agreement. That was why they accepted Eleanor’s proposition, when she promised that she could persuade James to make an agreement…
