Ledra Street did not escape from Rupert Gunnis’s archaeological escapades:

Eric Rice Secretary of the Overseas to lunch. Took him round the town, digging foundations in Ledra Street a large hoard of silver coins were found. Mostly Austria Maria Terese and Pillar Dollars and Turkish coins of about 1780, nearly 100 of them besides other Turkish silver ornaments. I fear that under the law we shall not be able to keep them.
