Johan David Akerblad, Swedish diplomat and orientalist, travelled to the east and made a short stop in Cyprus.

May 21st: Went in the evening to Famagusta (Αμμόχουστος ού πολύ μακράν της παλαιάς Σαλαμίνος ήτοι Κωνσταντίας) where I arrived on the 22nd at an early hour and returned the 23rd to Larnaca (Κίτιον κοινώς Κίτι). It is three hours from Larnaca to Ormidia; and then 5 to Famagusta. The country is flat.
