From the private journal of Lieutenant Donisthorpe Donne, district officer of Limassol, on a trip from Limassol to Nicosia:

(We) started for the Capital. Having Packed up my traps and sent them on ahead I said goodbye to Hedji Emmanuelli’s family (amongst whom were not a few moist eyes) and left Limassol on a very cold morning for Cofinu. Later on it commenced snowing and when I arrived at Cofinu under the shadow of the great Stavrovouni Mount I was not sorry to take shelter in the little house of-Effendi, a very hospitable old Turkish gentleman.
