Edith Belcher, wife of US Consul General, describes the orders of EOKA for passive resistance:

Iro came by this morning with much information about recent leaflets from EOKA. No more travelling. A complete boycott, walking when at all possible, less use of cars, no more travel abroad except on business, no sending children to technical school here, or any British or foreign school other than to Athens. All clothes to be local cotton. The gymnasium is changing all their uniforms in order to adopt to local goods.
