Edith Belcher, wife of US Consul General Taylor Belcher, visited a local:

Lolos drove Nitza and me down to see his family and new house in city. Poor man pays twenty pounds a month and only makes thirty five! Georgiki, who had his eye pocked nearly out by two Turkish boys several weeks ago, looks well but can see nothing with the left eye. A committee run by Chamber of Commerce is trying to help Lolos financially. He appealed to them. Theseus set up committee originally to help merchants who were forced to leave municipal market in Turkish quarter. Has spread to include those who suffered during riots at hands of Turks. Georgiki was hurt before riots started, but Lolos moved after the riots. So perhaps some financial aid can be given him. The flat is very nice, airy and sunny. His wife will try to let one of the rooms. We stayed for coffee and left after about an hour.
