24 January 1959: The American Consul General Taylor Belcher reported in telegraphic form to the Secretary of State.
“In discussing nationalist-communist problem with Deputy Governor Sinclair today he informed me two murdered men were on unannounced “Styllos Execution List” captured by British on December 18. This fact indicated killings, not merely case of loss nerve and fright by masked men as commonly supposed. Appears no logic in such attacks at the time unless one attributes it to Grivas pathological hatred communists combined with need to boost morale his organization.”
