23 May 1930: Rupert Gunnis was visiting Turkey on his way back to Cyprus. The spell of the island was following him everywhere.
“Got into Adalia about 12.00 All ashore and to see the sights. Alas! They are pulling down the walls. The museum has a very fine sarcophagus and an interesting inscription about King Peter of Cyprus visiting Adalia in 1363. I copied it down and sent it to the C.A.M. There was also a large marble slab with the Royal Lusignan arms on. Had a long talk with the Italian Consul and his wife, who is English.”
