The village wall

Creator:

Reilly, Bernard

Date:

ca. 1950

Places:

Cyprus

Description:

This watercolour depicts a traditional cistern and the modern construction of a long wall in the background. Cypress trees, typical of Cyprus, rise towards the sky and are surrounded by lower trees and ground covering flora. The artist has used interesting shades of green and yellow patches to create a summer atmosphere. Shades indicate the strong sun of a summer day in Cyprus. There is an almost stagnant atmosphere in the landscape which has no sign of human life.
