This is a portrait of the abbot of Kykko monastery Sophronios (1815-1890). In his diaries, Sir Garnet Wolseley remembers how the abbot Sophronios would daily supply bunches of fresh jasmine for his desk. The picture is painted only two years before the abbot’s death.
