Description:

Within the efforts of the British Colonial government to introduce the new colony of Cyprus to the British public, many links were forged between well- known stories and their heroes with the island. The engraving depicted, is one such imaginary example. The legendary Robin Hood was never in Cyprus and had no affiliations with the island but his figure is here portrayed with the background of the Kyrenia Mountains and in particular with one of the castles perched on the mountain top, either St. Hilarion or Boufavento. This way, the island comes to the forefront in the minds of the readers of the Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News.
