Description:
Sir George Smith arrived in Cyprus in 1879 and was appointed at the Chief Secretary’s Office. In 1881, he was promoted to Commissioner of Paphos. In 1895, he was appointed Registrar General. He was an amateur artist intrigued by the quaint and picturesque. In the watercolour, one may distinguish the dome and steeple of Phaneromeni church amongst the rooftops of Nicosia.
