Rooftops at Nicosia

Creator:

Diamantis, Adamantios (1900-1994)

Date:

1957

Description:

One of Cyprus’ most important and prolific artists, Adamantios Diamantis is known to have compiled an ethnographic record of the people of Cyprus and picturesque corners of Nicosia. Palm trees and humble houses stand resiliently against the hot sun of Cyprus. The feeling of heat is well captured in the white colouring of the houses set against little green vegetation in the foreground. The palm trees stand as reminders of the oriental aspect of the town.
