Description:

The Graphic Magazine reported on the floods in Limassol during the 13 December 1880. This was the second of three floods that devastated Limassol. The water of the Garillis river rose by about twenty feet and overflowed its banks, entering the central and western districts of the town. Apart from the destruction of property, some eight or ten people drowned and about a hundred houses were deemed unsafe and had to be pulled down. The views numbered 1 and 2 depict ruins in Victoria street, today’s Irinis street. Views 3 and 4 portray the Turkish mosque of Arnaut looking down and up the river. Scenes number 5 and 6 portray the Byron café and Prince Albert street respectively. The Byron café was situated on the sea shore, very near the harbour, whereas Prince Albert street is today’s Ellados street.
