Inscribed in lower right recto: Larnaka, Cyprus

Description:

The American artist Albert Leighton Rawson accompanied Lady Brassey on her yacht The Sunbeam to Cyprus. He made illustrations for Lady Brassey but also a few paintings. The view is a perfect combination of the colours of the East at sunset when the blue of the horizon mergers with the pink of the setting sun. A thin line of whitewashed buildings constitutes the first perception of Larnaca, Cyprus from the sea. A lone boat in the blue expanse of the sea and a land line hardly discernible in the horizon create the impression of a long forgotten isle drifting amidst blue waters.
