Kyrenia mountain range

Creator:

Codrington, John, 1898-1991

Date:

ca. 1923

Description:

Codrington spent much time in Cyprus and travelled all over the island. His brushes and palette were employed to glorify the light and the colours of the landscape and to record most of the important monuments. The Kyrenia mountain range was one of the most popular subjects for artists in Cyprus. The ragged mountain peaks against the blue sky rendered successfully the light in which the island is bathed. The proximity of these steep mountains to the sea is another much appreciated and often represented feature of Kyrenia, as seen in this watercolour.
