Kyrenia

Creator:

White, Ethelbert (1891-1972)

Date:

ca. 1950

Description:

A member of the London group since 1915, the artist was a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy. His paintings were used by the Cyprus Government Office in London to attract tourists, especially his views of Kyrenia. This is a view of the centre of Kyrenia harbour, probably on a Sunday when people promenade on the quay as portrayed in the painting. A fishing boat marks the centre of the harbour while the Kyrenia mountain range forms the background of the picture. Ethelbert White uses his skilful choice of colours to create a luring scene of the blues of the sea and the pinks of sunset.
