Description:
Donisthorpe Donne was district officer in Limassol from 1880 to 1882. He was the person who decided and designed the costumes of the Pioneer Regiment. He was based in Limassol but travelled all over the island and enjoyed illustrating the country and its people. The figure is of Ibrahim Mustafa, a Turkish member of the Pioneer Regiment. The cane and the posture indicate that he is a Non-Commissioned Officer, as attested in Donne’s journals (Alan Harfield, The Life and Times of a Victorian Officer, 1986, p60).
