House

Creator:

Reilly, Bernard

Date:

ca. 1950

Places:

Cyprus

Description:

The house portrayed in this picture is reminiscent of houses built during the colonial period by the British but also of outbuildings found near monasteries. The shape of the doors as well as the concrete steps leading to them is particularly interesting. The latter points to the modern era, whereas the wooden roof covering the veranda, points to styles of Turkish architecture. The combination of browns and green give depth to the picture and accentuates the focal aspect of the house.
