Description:
The Hungarian expressionist artist continued here his imagery based on myths and legends. He was inspired by the island of love and drew a frieze ‘of Nicosia’ which portrays figures in ancient clothing and postures reminiscent of the classical period of Cyprus. Two figures are playing ancient musical instruments, the flute and the harp. Naked women are relaxing in the foreground and other figures stand by. The Ionian columns, the floral decoration and indeed the design of a talanton (the ancient copper weight unit of Cyprus) allude to classical antiquity.
