Description:

Captain Graves surveyed the Mediterranean in 1841 on HMS Beacon. Thomas Abel Brimage Spratt was serving officer and was joined by Edward Forbes and William Thompson. The first scientific hydrographic survey of Cyprus was carried out by Captain Thomas Graves for the British Admiralty in 1849, and his chart of Cyprus was published in 1851. The present map presents detailed drawings of the seafront of every port town of Cyprus. Upon the arrival of the British, the Graves map was regarded as the best example of a hydrographic survey of the island and was used with minor amendments.
