A realistic oil painting depicts two generations of local women in a courtyard. he grandmother, seated in the courtyard and embroidering, is dressed in black as was customary among elderly Greek women in Cyprus. A younger woman stands behind her in a white apron to signal the traditional role of womenfolk in the domestic realm. The painting affords a glimpse into the social dynamics of Cypriot families and provides a social commentary on women’s position in society.
