Description:

Known to her friends as Becky, Alice Rebecca Kendall became a professional artist and exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy, the Royal Academy of Arts, Chelsea Gallery, Guildhall London, the Chenil Gallery and the Paris Salon. Her book, Funny Fishes, combined her love of art, writing and zoology. She wrote articles, poems, illustrations and book reviews for numerous publications, including Edinburgh College Art Magazine, Strand Magazine, Punch, Art and Design, the Mail on Sunday and the Sunday Times. She was president of the Society of Women Artists (1976) and had won various prizes at the Edinburgh College of Art. The painting affords a panoramic view of the Troodos mountains unfolding down to the Curium bay. A winding road goes through the mountains intersecting two small villages on its way to the shore. Starting with interesting shades of green in the foreground, the painting turns to pink shades in the middle alluding to the earth colours of the area which eventually turn white due to the limestone deposits in that part of the island. The painting has an almost naïve feel about it which the colour combination manages to transcend.
