Cinema Pathe

Creator:

Anonymous

Date:

ca. 1930

Medium:

Pencil

Description:

In 1912, a local businessman started a cinema in Limassol housed in the Akteon coffee shop which was renamed Pathe. It was the first cinema salon in Limassol and soon became very popular. The pencil drawing presents the façade of Pathe which had allusions to grandeur, decorated with columns and statues. In the forefront, there is a male head with a Panama hat, typical of the period, while in the background, animals appear, still to be the main means of transport. Streets were still being used as part of the coffee shop area as attested by the presence of coffee tables.
