Description:

Lilian Holt, wife of David Bomberg, and an artist in her own right was much influence by her husband's style. She uses brush strokes of thick paint and remains abstract with her subject. Her version of the monastery of Agios Chrysostomos is reminiscent of David Bomberg's version but Lilian becomes more forceful and uses stronger colour variations although remaining within the use of basically ochre and rose madder. The monastery of Agios Chrysostomos lies at the foothills of Buffavento mountain, once a glorious monastery engulfing a three-aisled church, but today the ruins of the monastery remain within a Turkish military camp and are inaccessible.
