Creator:

Date:

1880-10

Inscriptions:

Inscribed: Limassol, Cyprus

Description:

Donisthorpe Donne was district officer in Limassol from 1880 to 1882. He was the person who decided and designed the costumes of the Pioneer Regiment. He was based in Limassol but travelled all over the island and enjoyed illustrating the country and its people. The watercolour depicts a view of the Akrotiri peninsula as viewed from the Polemidia highland. The vegetation is sparse and low as a result of the existence of a salt lake in the area. The light colour of the water suggests a very hot day.
