Henna is a reddish dye prepared from the dried and ground leaves of the henna bush. It has been used since antiquity as a hair and body dye, especially in Egypt.
It has cooling effects on the body and is also used for medicinal purposes.
The dye is not permanent and lasts between 2-3 weeks. Henna has also been used to paint fingernails, and fabrics – including silk, wool and leather.
In Asia and the Middle East, henna is used to decorate the hands of brides with intricate designs. It is supposed to bring prosperity, health and happiness to the new couple.
