In the village of Lysi, a poor peasant, one of the few who could read and write, kept a diary of the most important events of each year. Thus, we have today The Chronicle of Lysi.
Chronicler of Lysi: 1804
Disaster year. On 10 March rebels entered the Konak to kill the Dragoman but he escaped to Constantinople. They then gave much trouble to archbishop Chrysanthos and the Christians. Only the town of Larnaca escaped their wrath. On 25 October two pashas came from Caramania, landed at Chrysomelandrina and camped at Jattos, but the rebels had already killed two Christians at Cythrea from Marathovounos village. They were persecuted by the soldiers but managed to barricade themselves in Nicosia for some days. Finally, some were taken to Larnaca by the consuls and put on a ship to sea, others were captured by the pashas and executed and so we finally had peace.
