The American missionary Lorenzo Warriner Pease took note of the Cypriots’ heads:
I have observed the following characteristics of the Cypriots. Their heads are usually not over the middle size, the forehead slopes (retreats) and tapers towards the top. It is rather below than above the medium height. The head is not long in proportion to its width. The back part is not very full and is often the reverse, or even somewhat flattened, but it runs up high so that the crown is very considerably higher than the forehead. The width from ear to ear I should think is not extraordinary. The priests are much more intellectual in the shape and size of their scull. Many of them have broad , though usually not very high foreheads and heads of a good size. Damaskinos has a high forehead and the bishop of Paphos pretty high, though neither of them are very broad.
