No rain in Nicosia and Sir Garnet Wolseley was worried:

Still no signs of rain. The people say that if we do not have it with the next new moon we shall have none until well on in December. I am becoming anxious about it… The price of corn gone up very much in consequence of no rain falling. The inhabitants of Nicosia very anxious that I should buy a large quantity to be able to sell it again in winter and so keep down the price of bread which the bakers are prone to run up unless some check is kept upon them. I don’t intend to interfere.
