Lorenzo Warriner Pease went for a coffee

Lorenzo Warriner Pease went for a coffee:

I sat down at Mr Beraud’s magazine, when I was greatly amused in hearing him speak several languages. First English and Greek to me, then French and Italian, afterwards Turkish, Arabic and Maltese to different natives of countries around the Mediterranean. It is true he speaks no language well, but then he is able to make himself understood by all. This took place in the course of half an hour and serves to show what kind of men we have and how many languages have been spoken here for ages as well as now.
