Lieut-Colonel Donisthorpe Donne, District Commissioner of Limassol, had to cope with the terrible floods in Limassol:

In spite however of our damp and uncomfortable condition and the impossibility of a plum pudding we spent a very jovial evening in the mess hut. I went down to see the destruction in Limassol, whole streets being washed away. The High Commissioner came down to see it on the 30th and inspected the Regiment at the same time. The Sergeants held their usual dance on the last day of the year after which we held the old year out and the new one in \t the mess hut.
