In a letter to his parents, Rupert Gunnis boasted about his success with tourists at the museum of Nicosia:

On Monday he received 400 American tourists who were sold antiquities from the Museum worth £42. They are described as rude, offensive and badly dressed. By December we hope to have accumulated over £200 for the Museum, which is more than my salary.
