The American missionary Lorenzo Warriner Pease set out for Amathus:

At night we arrived at Mone and in the morning of the 30th we set out for Amathounta, leaving Pirgos to the right. We here examined the ruins of an ancient Greek church, and those of this city. We found the two celebrated jars of which one is broken. The other measures around 33 feet, 8 in diameter inside, 14 feet deep, 4 feet diameter of mouth. At noon we arrived at Limassol and were received by Mr. Iassonides.
